Chapter 1. SOCIO-ECONOMIC CHANGES IN KOREA, THE SEVENTEENTH AND EIGHTEENTH CENTURIES
In modern historiography, in most cases the XVII century is defined as the beginning of a new history of Korea.
In Soviet historical literature of the new countdown time in Korea is from the XVII century. Any special discussions on this occasion, despite the fact that in the early 1970s, several authors have related the time until the mid-nineteenth century to the “late feudalism”.
In the Korean historical science approach to a new periodization of Korean history is more complex. In South Korea, the time from the beginning of the XVII century until the 1860s, called the period of “transition to a society of the new time”. Meanwhile, the popular reference edition of the mid-1990s, it belongs still to the period of the middle ages. A similar North Korea and the approach to the periodization of the new history of Korea: from one side, until the mid-nineteenth century historians North Korea date from the middle ages, and on the other they celebrate in Korea in XVII-XVIII centuries, the development of commodity-money relations and the emergence of capitalism.

The Korean People’sDemocratic people’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) or North Korea is a country in East Asia, located in the North of the Korean Peninsula. The country’s territory is 120,5 thousand sq. km On land, it borders with China and Russia in the North and to the South by 38th parallel — with South Korea. Bordered on the southwest by the waters of the Yellow and North-East of the sea of Japan. The capital Pyongyang with a population of over 4 million people according to the last 2010 census.
The Koreans are the absolute majority of the population of approximately 24.8 million people. And there are minorities: around 55000 Chinese and 2,000 Japanese. North Korea is a country closed type with paramilitary totalitarian regime. The power in it belongs to the workers ‘ Party of Korea headed by the General secretaries of the family, first on account of them — Kim Il-Sung. The state was formed in 1948 on 9 September, having been essentially a response to education in the South of the Korean Peninsula the Republic of Korea with a Pro-American government. After the Korean war in 1953, both countries are in the “cold” confrontation with repeated military interventions on both sides, especially in the area of the zone demarcation on the 38th parallel.
